Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province is accelerating the expansion of regional infrastructure by investing a large-scale budget in improving the residential environment for the safety and convenience of local residents. Cheongsong County announced that it would allocate a total of 37.9 billion won this year to the construction and Saemaul (New Village) sectors to expand living infrastructure that residents can directly benefit from and to establish a disaster prevention foundation.

This project is being promoted as a core policy under the county government’s slogan, “One Cheongsong, A Leap Beyond!” with the aim of establishing a safe and livable urban foundation and achieving balanced regional development.

The county will focus on five main strategies: establishing fast and highly satisfactory construction administration; creating a safe road environment; ensuring a stable water supply through the expansion of agricultural infrastructure; proactively preventing natural disasters; and expanding facilities for residents’ daily convenience.

First, to support residents who have suffered indirect damages due to dam construction, 770 million won will be invested in projects aimed at increasing income and building living infrastructure. Through this, the county plans to alleviate feelings of relative neglect while promoting the protection of residents’ rights and welfare.

In addition, the county intends to promptly address civil complaints related to construction administration to improve resident satisfaction, create a stable construction environment, foster the local construction industry, and establish a fair construction culture.

Road infrastructure improvement projects will also be fully implemented. The county will invest 1.6 billion won in maintaining county roads and rural roads, carrying out road expansion and paving, alignment improvements, asphalt overlays, painting lines in school zones, and installing guardrails to create a safe and pleasant commuting environment.

Additionally, precise safety inspections will be conducted on major bridges such as Cheongsonggyo and Wolmakgyo, and 3.2 billion won will be invested in the replacement construction of Ongjeom 1 Bridge to refurbish aging facilities and eliminate potential disaster risks in advance.

Alongside these efforts, the county will also support residents affected by last year’s large-scale wildfire. By investing 3.6 billion won, Cheongsong County will implement village infrastructure development and residential stability measures to help stabilize the lives of wildfire victims and prevent secondary damages.

Reinforcement of agricultural infrastructure in response to the climate crisis will also be strengthened. The county will complete the small-scale rural water development project for the Ijeon district with an investment of 8.1 billion won, while allocating 1.5 billion won for the field infrastructure improvement project in Seokgye, Gohyeon-ri, and 700 million won for repairs on the Neungnam Reservoir in Gaeil-ri, respectively.

Furthermore, approximately 1.6 billion won will be invested in refurbishing 31 districts with aging reservoirs and irrigation facilities, aiming to improve agricultural conditions and secure a stable agricultural water supply foundation.

A large budget will also be devoted to river maintenance projects to prevent natural disasters. The county will spend a total of 19.8 billion won to carry out projects in four disaster risk improvement districts (Mogye, Eomugol, Eungye, and Surak), one comprehensive flood risk management project in Jinbo-myeon, and four small river maintenance projects (Silmul, Motgol, Neungnam, and Sirigol).

In particular, the Jinbo-myeon district comprehensive flood risk management project is a large-scale initiative with a total project cost of 46.2 billion won. It aims to protect the lives and property of 1,069 households and 734 buildings by maintaining four small rivers, one reservoir, and urban pipelines in the frequently flooded Jinan and Ichon-ri areas of Jinbo-myeon.

In addition, the county will invest 10.3 billion won in 256 small-scale facility improvement projects that are closely related to residents’ daily lives, such as village access roads, farm roads, and small bridges. Regular repairs will also be carried out on community centers and octagonal pavilions to further improve the quality of living environments in ways that residents can truly feel.

A Cheongsong County official stated, “In a situation where the frequency of natural disasters is increasing due to climate change, ensuring the safety of our residents is a top priority that cannot be compromised. We will create a ‘Happy Cheongsong’ where all residents can live with peace of mind by systematically refurbishing infrastructure and building a dense safety network.”
