Pop star Britney Spears was arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence and has since been released. Spears was released after undergoing a blood alcohol concentration test and is scheduled to appear in court in May.
According to Reuters, AP, and other sources on March 5, Spears was stopped during a DUI checkpoint in Ventura, California, on the night of March 4 (local time).
Spears was then taken to a hospital for a blood alcohol concentration test, and the vehicle she was driving was reportedly towed.
She was released the following day, March 5, and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 to proceed with the legal process regarding the charges.
Spears has a prior record of being charged in traffic-related incidents. In 2007, she was charged with a hit-and-run that resulted in property damage.
Spears' side has issued an apology regarding this incident. In a statement to the U.S. media, her spokesperson said, "There is absolutely no excuse," adding, "Britney will comply with the law and take the appropriate actions, and we hope this will be the first step toward the long-needed changes in Britney's life."
