The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 5th that it has approved, as originally proposed, the amendment to the urban facility and detailed facility development plan for Sogang University at 1-1 Sinsu-dong, Mapo-gu, through the 3rd Urban Planning Committee.
With this decision, Sogang University will be able to consolidate its advanced departments, such as the Department of System Semiconductor Engineering and the Department of Artificial Intelligence, which were previously scattered, and expand its industry-academia-research collaboration facilities, thereby strengthening the university's competitiveness.
The new innovation growth facility, the “Student Creative Research Building,” will have a total floor area of approximately 18,000 square meters (13 stories above ground), with construction scheduled to begin in March 2027 and completion targeted for September 2028.
The innovation growth facility is exempt from the 1.5D diagonal height restriction on school boundaries in accordance with Seoul City's “University Urban Planning Innovation” policy, allowing for a more flexible campus space design.
In addition, a multipurpose facility tentatively named the “Future Technology Education Center,” where local residents can participate in AI-based education and experiences, will be established, and university facilities will be opened to the community.
