Kim Dongyun: "May Fire Captain Seong Chiin Rest in Peace"

Dongyun Kim, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, paid tribute to the late Fire Lieutenant Seong Chiin of the Goyang Fire Station, who died in the line of duty during fire suppression efforts last year.

On the 4th, Governor Kim posted on his social media, "A firefighter who protected the people of our province has left us," adding, "Fire Lieutenant Seong Chiin of the Goyang Fire Station was a firefighter with a deep sense of duty who, for 19 years, was always the first to rush to dangerous scenes."

He continued, "Gyeonggi Province has recommended to the government a special promotion to Fire Captain and the posthumous awarding of the Order of Service Merit (Green Stripes) in honor of the deceased's sacrifice," and promised, "We will ensure that no efforts are spared in honoring the late firefighter and supporting the bereaved family." On the 4th, the government promoted Seong Chiin to Fire Captain and posthumously awarded the Order of Service Merit (Green Stripes).

He added, "We will remember the devotion of the late Fire Captain Seong Chiin for a long time," and expressed his condolences, "May he rest in peace."

On November 24 last year, Seong Chiin, then the leader of Team 1 at the Haengsin Safety Center of the Goyang Fire Station, was found in cardiac arrest at the scene while responding to a fire at an automobile repair shop in Deogyang-gu, Goyang City. After receiving inpatient treatment for about three months at Myongji Hospital in Goyang, he died in the line of duty on the 3rd.
