Damyang County Honored as Nation’s Top Water Management Institution... Achieves 92% Water Supply Rate

Jeonnam Damyang County has risen to become the nation’s top water management institution, recognized for its outstanding achievements in modernizing its water supply system and fully implementing innovative smart water network management.

According to Damyang County on March 4, the county was finally selected as the best water management institution and received an award at the 34th Water Management Symposium, which was held in celebration of World Water Day.

This symposium is a prestigious event co-hosted by Environment Times, Environment Broadcasting (GKBS), and Water and Sewage Newspaper, with the support of five organizations and institutions, including the National Assembly Water Forum, the Ministry of Environment, and Korea Water Resources Corporation. Each year, it recognizes and awards institutions that have achieved outstanding operational efficiency in the field of water management.

Damyang County secured a substantial project budget totaling 14.2 billion won to actively invest in improving the coverage rate of local water supply. In particular, the successful implementation of the local water supply modernization project and the establishment of smart water network management infrastructure, which raised the existing water supply rate to as high as 92%, received high praise from the judges.

In addition, the county has continually strengthened its foundation for providing safer and cleaner tap water to residents by newly installing advanced water purification facilities at the aging Singye Water Purification Plant and other initiatives.

Previously, Damyang County was also selected as the best institution in the ‘2025 General Water Supply Operation and Management Status Evaluation.’ By once again winning the top honor at this year’s Water Management Symposium, the county has firmly demonstrated its exceptional and advanced capabilities in water administration nationwide.

An official from Damyang County stated, “We will focus our administrative efforts on creating robust conditions so that all residents can access the water supply without exclusion and on providing safe, clean, and clear water that everyone can drink with confidence.”
