Starting from July 2025, Gangjin County conducted a demand survey targeting general restaurants and FU-SO (Farm Stay) businesses in the area and ultimately selected 10 businesses with a strong commitment and operational capability as pilot operators.
The selected businesses are as follows: Eunhaengnamu, Doldam Han Jeongsik, President's Table, Dagang Co., Ltd., Byeongyeong Yeontan Bulgogi, Kkotdeul, Dongbaekgol Hanok, Onsaemiro, Sookine Minbak, and Gangjin Sandul Farm.
The county focused on the fact that rice barley is high in protein, low in fat, and rich in dietary fiber, and developed 26 healthy meal recipes using this ingredient.
Representative menu items include rice barley salad, rice barley sweet pumpkin Sikhye, rice barley sweet pumpkin porridge, and rice barley seaweed rice. The recipes have been structured so that rice barley can be used in both daily meals and experience-based table settings.
The developed recipes are designed not only for Korean-style table settings but also to be practical and marketable, taking into account the needs of tourists and visitors seeking hands-on experiences.
Gangjin County plans to distribute the developed recipes to the pilot businesses and foster "rice barley healthy meals" as a regionally specialized food offering.
A Gangjin County official stated, "Rice barley is a very promising agricultural product, and we will continue to develop various products using it and enhance the value of local agricultural goods through cooperation with local farms."
