On March 4, Dong-gu District in Gwangju announced that it will operate the “Dong-gu Childcare Cafe,” a neighborhood communication platform for sharing parenting concerns and information among parents of infants and young children, until December 2026.
The “Dong-gu Childcare Cafe” is one of Dong-gu’s specialized parenting support policies. It provides a space where parents of infants and young children, as well as expectant parents (including pregnant women), can freely share their parenting experiences and information over tea, and submit suggestions to the district office. The pilot operation last year received an enthusiastic response from participating parents.
The Dong-gu Childcare Cafe will be held regularly at two locations: the first branch (Cafe Comma Bluebird Eye Clinic Branch) and the second branch (Dong-gu Public Library Book Garden). It will take place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, starting at 10:30 AM and lasting for about one hour. The first meeting will be held at the first branch on March 11.
This year, in addition to providing information on Dong-gu’s childbirth and parenting support programs, the district plans to enhance parental satisfaction by offering customized educational programs that reflect participants’ needs, as well as tour programs such as “Shining Children’s Nation.”
A Dong-gu official stated, “We hope the Dong-gu Childcare Cafe becomes a warm haven where parents can share their experiences and concerns, and exchange useful information. We also hope it will be a healing time in which parents can feel that parenting is not a solitary journey but a process done together.”
