On March 4, Kumoh National Institute of Technology (President Kim Sangho) announced that its Department of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, majoring in Architecture, has received the highest grade of '6-year accreditation' in the '2025 Architecture Education Accreditation Evaluation' hosted by the Korean Architectural Accreditation Board (KAAB).
The Department of Architecture at Kumoh National Institute of Technology first received accreditation in 2017, and again earned the highest grade in 2020. This marks the department’s third achievement, reaffirming its status as the leading institution for architectural education in the region.
In particular, it was noted that the site visit team gave positive evaluations across all criteria during the accreditation review, demonstrating the department’s high-quality curriculum as well as the outstanding capabilities of both faculty and students.

Based on a business agreement signed in 2023 with the Gumi Urban Regeneration Support Center, the Architecture major operates field-oriented courses for fourth-year students.
Through collaboration with the local Urban Regeneration Field Support Center, students conduct actual resident interviews and tackle urban regeneration issues, thereby cultivating practical on-site skills.
The department also received high marks for its robust education in technical design. Programs that harmoniously combine theory and practice, such as Building Systems Integration Design and Environmental Control Systems, were highly praised for their completeness. In addition, the undergraduate research lab system, operated by full-time professors, has become a vibrant communication channel between faculty and students, resulting in outstanding achievements in various external competitions.
Currently, Kumoh National Institute of Technology is promoting the internationalization of education by holding 'Global Charrettes' design project sharing sessions with the University of Maryland in the United States.
The two universities are advancing global exchange through project sharing, discussions, and presentations, and plan to foster architects with an international perspective by supporting overseas internships and training opportunities.
Kang Jun-kyung, the professor overseeing the preparation for this architecture education accreditation, stated, "This achievement is the result of the university’s full support and the tireless efforts of all members. We will continue to do our utmost to nurture professional and globally competitive architectural talent through close communication with the local community."
