Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) announced on March 4, 2026, that it will supply 37,580 units of jeonse rental housing nationwide this year to alleviate housing cost burdens for low-income households without homes.
The jeonse rental system allows eligible applicants to find their own homes, after which LH signs a jeonse (long-term deposit lease) contract with the homeowner and then subleases the property to the applicant at a lower price.
This year, LH plans to increase the supply compared to last year (33,000 units), providing a total of 37,580 jeonse rental housing units across the country. The units will be supplied by category according to life cycle and income level: 13,000 units (35%) for the general public and the elderly, 10,000 units (27%) for young adults, 6,700 units (18%) for newlywed couples, 2,800 units (8%) for non-apartment housing, 2,500 units (7%) for victims of jeonse fraud, and 2,200 units (6%) for households with multiple children.
By region, 21,836 units (58.1%) will be supplied in the Seoul metropolitan area, where housing demand is concentrated, 8,707 units (23.2%) in metropolitan cities, and 7,037 units (18.7%) in other regional cities.
The maximum amount of jeonse deposit support for the general category is 130 million won in the Seoul metropolitan area and 90 million won in metropolitan cities. In other regions, support is available up to 70 million won. For young adults (single-person households), the support limit is 120 million won in the Seoul metropolitan area, 95 million won in metropolitan cities, and 85 million won in other areas.
The supply schedule for the first half of the year has been moved up compared to previous years, taking into account recent increases in monthly and jeonse rents and the decrease in available properties. Starting with the recruitment of 7,000 first-priority young adult applicants in February, rolling recruitment for newlyweds and households with multiple children will be held in April and May, followed by regular recruitment for general and elderly applicants for existing homes. In the second half of the year, LH plans to provide additional supply focused on categories with high demand, such as young adults, depending on supply performance and demand trends within the budget.
Meanwhile, LH supplied 33,000 jeonse rental housing units nationwide last year, accounting for 51% of the total public rental housing supply (64,000 units) provided that same year.
Cho Kyungsook, Acting President of LH, said, "We have expanded the supply of jeonse rental housing and moved up the supply schedule to help stabilize housing and reduce housing costs for low-income households without homes. We will strengthen the provision of public rental housing information and do our best to expand housing supply so that more people can receive housing support."
