LG Electronics is accelerating next-generation telematics technology innovation in partnership with global semiconductor company Qualcomm. On March 2, 2026 (local time), at the world’s largest mobile communications exhibition, Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, held in Barcelona, Spain, LG Electronics announced that it will join the 'Global 6G Coalition,' an alliance launched under Qualcomm’s leadership.
This coalition includes participation from more than 30 global companies spanning connected mobility, mobile communications, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and mobile device sectors. They plan to conduct research and development on a wide range of devices, data services, and air-to-ground traffic management services utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-powered 6G technology. Alongside the coalition’s launch, Qualcomm presented a roadmap targeting the implementation of commercial 6G systems by 2029.
LG Electronics is participating as a key partner in the connected mobility sector, enhancing its future technological capabilities for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV) and AI-Defined Vehicles (AIDV). Major areas of collaboration include: ▲ innovation in AI-based infotainment and user experience; ▲ expansion of seamless digital experiences connecting vehicles, mobile, home, and cloud; ▲ implementation of high-performance computing and real-time data processing in SDV environments.
LG Electronics will promote standardization and system validation in cooperation with various companies, laying the groundwork for building an open ecosystem. Leveraging its accumulated technological expertise as a leading telematics service provider, the company plans to accelerate the development of automotive electronics technologies focused on AI and telecommunications, in line with the era of SDVs and AIDVs.

This move comes as vehicle communication technology emerges as a core factor in mobility competitiveness. LG Electronics aims to strengthen strategic collaborations with automakers and telecommunications companies seeking next-generation communication solutions in line with trends toward autonomous driving and advanced infotainment.
LG Electronics is advancing rapidly in the field of connected cars, with 'LG αWare' as a representative example. LG αWare is comprised of the vehicle entertainment solution 'PlayWare,' the AR/MR and AI-based user experience platform 'MetaWare,' and the ADAS solution 'VisionWare,' which utilizes AI algorithms and camera sensors.
Additionally, LG Electronics was the first to apply its Automotive Content Platform (ACP) based on webOS for vehicles to a commercial electric vehicle. ACP extends the diverse customer experiences offered by LG Electronics’ proprietary smart TV platform webOS into the vehicle interior, providing a variety of premium content such as LG Channels.
Meanwhile, at CES 2026 held earlier this year, LG Electronics also unveiled, in partnership with Qualcomm, a generative AI-based high-performance computing (HPC) device for vehicles, continuing their close cooperation. The 'AI Cabin Platform,' an on-device AI solution serving as the vehicle’s brain within the HPC, was unveiled for the first time to automaker clients.
Lee Sangyong, Executive Vice President and Head of the VS Research Lab at LG Electronics, emphasized, "Through this collaboration, we will have the opportunity to broadly develop various solutions that combine AI and telecommunications technology. We will continue to research a wider technology ecosystem spanning telematics, infotainment, and security, thereby transforming the in-vehicle customer experience."
