Seo Samseok, Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, has announced his intention to step down from the party leadership, wrapping up his activities in the top leadership.

Supreme Council Member Seo has served for 199 days since he was appointed as a nominated Supreme Council Member on August 6, 2025. Referring to the Central Committee's decision on February 2 to adopt the "one member, one vote system" and the "priority nomination of nominated Supreme Council Members from strategic regions to enhance the status of party members in strategic regions," he stated, "I want to contribute to reforms aimed at making the Democratic Party stronger and more solid."

He also expressed his gratitude to Party Leader Jung Cheongrae for nominating him as a member of the leadership, and conveyed his appreciation for the principle of "special rewards for special sacrifices," which President Lee Jaemyung and the party leadership have consistently emphasized.

However, he said, "I am sorry that I was not able to fully live up to the intentions of the leader and the expectations of the party members," expressing regret that he had not achieved more results for farmers, fishers, and marginalized groups.

Seo assessed that, even amid a national crisis on December 3, 2024, the party had steadfastly fulfilled its role, and said that since the launch of the Lee Jaemyung administration, the country has been moving toward "a nation where the people are the owners, a Republic of Korea where everyone is happy." He further stressed that the tasks being promoted under the leadership of Party Leader Jung Cheongrae-"overcoming rebellion, the three major reforms, and advancing as a party of party-member sovereignty"-are also proceeding at a rapid pace. In particular, he added his expectations for realizing decentralization and balanced regional development through administrative integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju.

During his term, he spoke a total of 50 times at Supreme Council meetings to urge policy improvements; of these, 10 proposals have been reflected in policy, 19 are currently in progress, and 21 remain as pending tasks, he explained. He stated, "I will continue to responsibly propose and demand that the government address the unfinished tasks as well."

Seo went on to say that he will focus more on his role as Chair of the Special Committee for Honam Development. He emphasized, "I will faithfully devote myself to the journey toward the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration and the golden age of the Democratic Party of Korea, and I will work tirelessly for victory in the local elections."

He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the party leadership, party officials, journalists, the public, and party members.
