People Power Party Completes Nomination Committee Formation... 60% in Their 30s and 40s, 60% Women

The People Power Party completed the formation of its Nomination Management Committee on the 19th, which will be in charge of the June 3 local elections and the National Assembly by-elections and re-elections. Lee Jung-hyun, chair of the committee, said, "The only thing we considered was whether we could work together on innovative nominations, rather than factions or regions," adding, "We will move toward generational change, a new era, and political transition."

According to chief spokesperson Choi Boyoon, the People Power Party held a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on the morning of the same day and approved the agenda for appointing members of the committee. With this, the party's Nomination Management Committee has been formed with 10 members, including chair Lee Jung-hyun, who was appointed earlier.


Secretary-general Jung Heeyong became vice chair of the committee ex officio, and among incumbent lawmakers, Representatives Seo Ji-young and Choi Sujin were appointed as members. Other members include lawyer Yoon Yong-geun, head of the Seongnam Jungwon Party Chapter in Gyeonggi Province; Kim Boram, director of the Korean Association for Policy Studies; Song Seoyul, head of the policy research group Team.Fe; Lee Dong-geon, member of the Central Party’s Evaluation Committee for Elected Public Officials; Lee Hana, adjunct professor at Sungkyunkwan University; and Hwang Surim, planning director at the Seoul Bar Association. Most of them were born in the 1980s and 1990s.


On the same day, Lee wrote on his social networking service (SNS), "People in their 30s and 40s make up 60%, women make up 60%, insiders and outsiders of the party each make up 50%, and participation by incumbent National Assembly members has been minimized to three, including ex officio members," adding, "We formed the committee solely by looking at cool-headedness and fairness to carry out nomination management that can select candidates who are free from authoritarianism, free from cartels, free from vested interests, and who possess future-oriented thinking, innovativeness, and competitiveness."
