Doosan Logistics Solutions (DLS) announced on the 19th that it has won a logistics automation project for the Aseong Daiso Yangju Hub Center worth 162 billion won. This is the largest project since DLS was founded.
The Yangju Hub Center, which will be newly built in the Eunnam Industrial Complex in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2028. It will have a total floor area of 25,943 square meters (approximately 62,406 pyeong), four stories above ground, and a height of 45 meters. By 2030, it will serve as a core hub handling about 37% of all online and offline orders for Aseong Daiso. In particular, unlike the existing system that operated separate facilities dedicated to online and offline channels, it will adopt an “omnichannel model” that integrates and manages online and offline inventory within a single system.
In addition, it is expected to establish itself as an ideal logistics model pursued by the retail industry, as it will eliminate the need for duplicate inventory storage, maximize investment efficiency by sharing space, facilities, and IT infrastructure, minimize inventory transfers between channels, and enable immediate shipment from the inventory closest to the customer order. This will reduce costs while improving delivery speed.
For this project, DLS will oversee the entire logistics automation solution process, including design and engineering consulting, the supply of advanced automated equipment, the development of artificial intelligence (AI)-based software, and maintenance.
The Yangju Hub Center will be equipped with advanced systems from Knapp, a logistics automation company. A total of 478 units of Knapp’s “OSR (Order Storage and Retrieval) Shuttle,” an ultra-high-speed shuttle operating at an industry-leading speed of 5 meters per second, will be installed. Each shuttle can transport products weighing up to 30 kilograms and is designed so that online and offline inventory can be operated in an integrated manner within the shuttle racks to support omnichannel operations. The GTP (Goods to Person) station is a system that automatically delivers items dispatched from the shuttles to workers. Its ergonomic design maximizes picking efficiency and work convenience. The ODS (Order Distribution System) automatically optimizes the sequence of order processing, reducing worker workload, improving picking efficiency, and significantly increasing work speed.
In addition, DLS plans to build an advanced integrated operation system through its independently developed warehouse management system, warehouse control system, and order management system. This integrated software operation system will function as the central brain that enables the entire logistics center to operate like a single organism and will serve as a core infrastructure that maximizes the performance of the automated equipment.
A DLS representative said, “This contract demonstrates that DLS’s technological capabilities and project execution competence are at the highest level in the industry,” adding, “Based on the experience we have accumulated by carrying out large-scale logistics centers for companies such as Coupang and Nike, as well as numerous manufacturing logistics automation projects, we will develop the Yangju Hub Center into a top-tier omnichannel logistics center in Korea.”
