Gyeonggi Province will implement a "Housing Upgrading Support Program" this year for vulnerable households with housing difficulties.
The program targets people who have lived for more than three months in non-residential facilities such as small one-room units (goshiwon) and shelters for the homeless, people in need of emergency housing support such as victims of domestic violence, and households living with children in dwellings that fall short of the minimum housing standards.
Residents of Gyeonggi Province who wish to receive support can apply for the program through consultations at their local housing welfare center. After cities and counties verify eligibility for move-in, applicants are selected as beneficiaries for public rental housing through LH and GH. Dedicated staff members at the centers then accompany beneficiaries to view homes in person and help them search for suitable housing.
During the relocation process, the program provides moving expenses and daily necessities. If repairs are needed in the new home, it also covers renovation costs to ease difficulties in the early stages of settlement. Even after moving, welfare services such as job-search activity expenses, counseling, and region-specific programs are provided so that beneficiaries can adapt to the new environment and become self-reliant.
Those who wish to apply for the Housing Upgrading Support Program for vulnerable households can check the list of regional centers on the Gyeonggi Housing Welfare Portal (https://housing.gg.go.kr) and contact the housing welfare center nearest to their place of residence.
Kim Taesoo, Head of the Housing Policy Division at Gyeonggi Province, said, "We will ensure that residents across the province can benefit from a dense housing safety net," adding, "We will do our utmost in policy support so that everyone can live in a safe and pleasant environment."
Gyeonggi Province has provided new homes to a total of 4,906 households from 2020 through last year. This year, it aims to support 1,275 households in total.
