Reflecting Dedicated Staff for Integrated Care
Calling for Applications from Outstanding Talent

On February 18, Gyeongbuk Province announced that it will recruit 2,234 new public officials to be appointed to the provincial government office and 22 cities and counties this year.

By grade, this includes 59 Grade-7 officials, 104 Grade-8 officials, 1,984 Grade-9 officials, 45 research officers, and 42 guidance officers, representing a 59% increase (829 people) from last year’s intake of 1,405. In particular, compared with last year, the number of hires has risen significantly for Grade-9 administrative positions (by 260), social welfare positions (by 229), and health positions (by 69). This reflects the incorporation of demand for dedicated personnel at the provincial and municipal/county levels into the recruitment scale ahead of the launch of the full-scale integrated care program next month. In addition, due to growing demand for public safety and for overall livelihood-related administration, it has become necessary to reinforce staffing in order to provide administrative services tailored to local conditions.

The examinations this year will be held a total of five times. Through two open competitive recruitment examinations, the province plans to select 1,988 people, including Grade-7 administrative officials, and through three career-based competitive recruitment examinations, it plans to select 246 people, including Grade-7 veterinary officials. In parallel, it will also conduct separate recruitment to expand opportunities for disadvantaged groups to enter public service and to diversify the organization, selecting 174 persons with disabilities, 43 from low-income households, 45 graduates of technical high schools, and 12 candidates recommended by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.

Meanwhile, since 2024 Gyeongbuk Province has been exempting applicants in the veterinary series from the written examination, instead hiring based solely on document screening and interviews, and has also moved the hiring schedule forward. This is aimed at ensuring efficient staffing for livestock quarantine and infectious disease response.

Starting this year, a new requirement will be added to the Grade-9 career-based competitive recruitment examination for technical high school graduates: completion of specialized coursework. Applicants must be graduates or prospective graduates of a department related to the job category to be filled, and they must have completed at least 50% of the relevant specialized courses.

Hwang Myungseok, Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “I hope that outstanding talents with fresh ideas and strong capabilities will enter public service and contribute to improving administrative services for residents, including addressing low birth rates, promoting culture and tourism, and revitalizing private investment,” adding, “As the number of recruits has increased significantly compared with last year, we will thoroughly inspect all aspects of exam administration, including the operation of test sites, so that examinees can focus on their exams without inconvenience.”
