Lim Jongeon and Shin Dongmin Advance to Short Track 1000m Semifinals... Hwang Daeheon Disqualified

Lim Jongeon and Shin Dongmin of the Korean men's short track national team have advanced to the semifinals of the 1000m short track event.


On February 13 (Korea time), at the Ice Skating Arena in Milan, Italy, where the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics are being held, Lim Jongeon and Shin Dongmin each finished second in Heats 2 and 4 of the men's 1000m short track quarterfinals, respectively, and advanced to the semifinals.

In Heat 2, Shin Dongmin competed against the world’s strongest skater, William Dandjinou. Shin Dongmin battled Dandjinou for first place in the early stages, but after the midpoint he settled into second behind Dandjinou, then firmly defended the inside line to hold his position to the end. Shin crossed the finish line in 1 minute 23.971 seconds, 0.19 seconds behind Dandjinou.


Racing in the final Heat 4, Lim Jongeon poured on the power at the end to secure a spot in the semifinals. With two laps remaining, he took a wide outside line to move up from fourth to second place before crossing the finish line. He recorded 1 minute 25.213 seconds, 0.014 seconds slower than Jens van ’t Wout of the Netherlands.


Hwang Daeheon crossed the finish line in third place in Heat 2 but failed to advance to the semifinals after being penalized for a foul.
