On February 12, domestic pharmaceutical distribution company Geo Young announced that advertisements for cold medicine attached to its delivery vehicles are showing a particularly strong effect during the winter season.
Winter is a time when visits to pharmacies increase due to seasonal illnesses such as colds and flu-like symptoms. The company explained that advertisements on delivery vehicles parked in front of pharmacies are exposed to consumers right before purchase, thereby boosting "brand recall," which leads consumers to think of a specific brand first.
Brand recall refers to the degree to which consumers spontaneously recall a particular brand without any separate cue. The general interpretation in the industry is that the brand that comes to mind first at the moment of purchase is more likely to be chosen.
Based on its distribution network that supplies pharmaceuticals to about 80% of pharmacies nationwide, Geo Young operates around 500 delivery vehicles. It is evaluated as having a strength in repeated exposure focused on areas with a high concentration of pharmacies.
A Geo Young representative said, "According to an analysis by a pharmaceutical research platform, major cold medicine brands that carried out vehicle advertising ranked among the top in sales, based on POS data from 418 pharmacies nationwide from November last year to January this year."
