KT Alpha, a data-driven home shopping company, posted its largest-ever operating profit last year thanks to improved profitability in its core T-commerce and mobile gift certificate businesses.
KT Alpha announced on the 11th that its operating profit for last year came to 44.2 billion won, up 80% from a year earlier and the highest in its history. Revenue rose 2% to 395.9 billion won.
By business segment, T-commerce revenue edged down to 268.5 billion won, but operating profit more than doubled thanks to a portfolio focused on profitability. The company said its strategy of diversifying the product portfolio to reflect the polarization trend between premium and value-for-money products, and adopting customized strategies that carefully take into account customer lifestyles, proved effective.
The mobile gift certificate business posted revenue of 127.4 billion won, up 13%, and operating profit also increased significantly. In particular, the company strengthened product competitiveness by launching an "integrated gift certificate" that can be used at any preferred major retailer among Shinsegae, Emart, Nonghyup and others, and a "mart integrated gift certificate" that can be used at the three major hypermarkets Emart, Lotte, and Nonghyup simultaneously.
It also became the first in the industry to introduce an RCS (Rich Communication Services)-based message card feature, and enhanced work efficiency and convenience for corporate clients by fully automating the entire process from drawing winners to shipping prizes through its "winner drawing service."
The company stated that this year it also plans to strengthen its competitiveness as a commerce & marketing company by innovating customer experience and advancing AI-based services.
Meanwhile, KT Alpha held a board meeting on the same day and decided to pay a cash dividend of 280 won per common share. The payment is scheduled for April 24 after obtaining approval at the shareholders' meeting on March 27.
