Suwon City Library in Gyeonggi Province is accepting recommendations for candidate books for this year's "Suwon Citizens' One Book Reading Campaign" until February 18.
The Suwon Citizens' One Book Reading Campaign, a citizen-led reading initiative, selects a Book of the Year and runs related programs such as performances, lectures, reading programs, and hands-on activities. It is a citizen participation reading movement in which citizens read the selected books together and share their thoughts.
From the general books and children's books recommended by citizens as candidates, this year's books to read together will be selected through screening and a citizen vote: 2 general books, 2 children's books, and 1 book by an author from Suwon. A "Book of the Year" section will also be set up in the collections room of Suwon City Library.
Recommendations can be submitted until February 18 via the Suwon City Library website (www.suwonlib.go.kr) and the city administration participation platform Saebit Toktok. Citizens can also visit Suwon City Library and make recommendations in person until February 15.
The selection criteria for the Book of the Year are as follows: books by living Korean authors that are easy to obtain on the market; books that can convey the joy of reading and the benefits of reading; books that provide lessons and inspiration; books suitable for revitalizing a reading discussion culture and for planning and operating various reading culture programs; books published within the last 10 years (excluding Suwon's designated books); books by authors from the Suwon area or books on the theme of Suwon; books that elementary school students can easily read and relate to; and books that can be read together by teenagers and adults.
A Suwon City Library official said, "The 2026 Suwon Citizens' One Book Reading Campaign is a reading movement that facilitates communication through books recommended by citizens," adding, "We hope citizens will actively participate in selecting this year's books."
