On February 11, Geumcheon-gu in Seoul (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) announced that on the 10th it had submitted an application to the Seoul Metropolitan Government for approval of the implementation plan for the "Jungang Cheoljae Jonghap Sangga Market Improvement Project" in the area around 966 Siheung 3-dong.

원본보기 아이콘Jungang Cheoljae Jonghap Sangga is an aging market that has been in operation for about 39 years since its opening in 1987. There are concerns about structural safety, and, as a commercial complex that also engages in metal processing, it has continuously generated dust and noise, placing a burden on the living environment of the adjacent residential areas.
Once the Seoul Metropolitan Government Market Improvement Project Deliberation Committee reviews and comprehensively examines the feasibility of the project details, including the planned use and building scale, and then grants approval and issues a public notice, the area will be deemed designated as a redevelopment zone under the Act on the Maintenance and Improvement of Urban Areas and Dwelling Conditions for Residents. This will move the Jungang Cheoljae Jonghap Sangga Market Improvement Project into a full-fledged implementation phase.
Through this project, the district will promote the expansion of high-quality housing and convenience facilities, the creation of a safe living environment, and the improvement of the urban landscape. Based on this, it plans to strengthen the function of the area as a core station area serving as a gateway city in the southwestern part of Seoul.
In particular, during the process of establishing the project implementation plan, the district placed emphasis on strategically reflecting a regional revitalization-oriented approach, including strengthening spatial connectivity with Hoamsan Mountain, arranging key facilities and green spaces within the complex to promote active street life, creating lifestyle-oriented spaces that encompass daily living, dining, and leisure, and developing specialized content designed to attract visitors and encourage longer stays.
The project area is located in a double-station area, with the Shinansan Line scheduled to open, and other redevelopment projects such as the Siheung Distribution Complex Urban High-Tech Logistics Complex Development Project and the Moa Town project are underway. Along with these various development initiatives, the Jungang Cheoljae Jonghap Sangga Market Improvement Project is expected to generate a synergistic effect.
Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "This Jungang Cheoljae Jonghap Sangga Market Improvement Project is not only about restructuring the functions of an aging market, but also serves as an important turning point for the Seoksu Station area to emerge as a gateway city in the southwestern part of Seoul," adding, "We will continue to work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and related agencies to ensure that the project can proceed swiftly and stably."
