7-Eleven announced on the 10th that it has carried out a renewal of its "Chakhan Taekbae" parcel delivery service, which was launched last year using its convenience store logistics network, to mark the first anniversary of the service launch.
When Chakhan Taekbae was first launched in February last year, it drew attention with a pricing policy that reduced the burden on consumers. By introducing a flat-rate policy regardless of weight or distance and promoting a KRW 990 launch promotion, the number of uses surged 3.5 times within just one week of the service launch.
Over the past year or so, 7-Eleven has added convenience to the strong price competitiveness of Chakhan Taekbae by reflecting accumulated customer data and on-site feedback. It shifted from the previous method of using existing convenience store logistics vehicles to a method that utilizes Lotte Global Logistics' dedicated parcel delivery system and infrastructure.
The most noticeable change is the expansion of delivery areas. Previously, deliveries were only possible within the mainland and within Jeju Island respectively, but now two-way delivery between the mainland and Jeju has become available. In addition, the service area has been expanded to include remote island and mountainous regions such as Wando-gun, Jindo-gun, and Sinan-gun, which had previously been blind spots for the Chakhan Taekbae service.
Delivery time has also been reduced. Under the previous system, it took an average of about 4 to 5 days due to reasons such as transfers between stores, but through this renewal, the average delivery period has been shortened by about 50% to 2 to 3 days (an average of 3 days between the mainland and Jeju). This is similar to the level of standard parcel services.
To respond to rapidly increasing parcel demand, 7-Eleven began distributing new integrated-scale parcel equipment nationwide from August last year, deploying around 3,000 units. As a result, not only advance reservations through the existing Seven App and partner platforms (such as Bungaejangter and Logi-Eye), but also on-site drop-offs at stores have become more convenient.
To commemorate the renewal of the Chakhan Taekbae service, 7-Eleven is running a promotion. For the month of February, customers who use Chakhan Taekbae via platforms such as the Seven App, Logi-Eye, LogisHub, and Naver, or who drop off parcels directly at stores, can use the service at KRW 1,400, which is among the lowest prices in the industry. (However, an additional KRW 3,000 will be charged for deliveries between the mainland and Jeju.) The intention is to contribute to price stability by raising speed and quality to the level of standard parcel services while keeping the price at roughly the cost of a cup of coffee.
Goo Hyungmin, in charge of parcel services on the Service Products Team at 7-Eleven, said, "This year, we focused on improving the service through synergies with Lotte Global Logistics," adding, "We will continue to introduce differentiated delivery services and aggressive promotions as a bridge connecting the mainland, Jeju, and remote island and mountainous regions."
