AI Interpretation App Introduced in Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone... Moving to Zero Industrial Accidents for Foreign Workers

AI Interpretation App Project Aims for Zero Industrial Accidents Among Foreign Workers

The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Commissioner Park Seongho, is launching an industrial accident zero project using an AI interpretation app to resolve language communication issues for foreign workers and reduce industrial accidents.

On the 9th, the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority announced that it will fully implement the "2026 Industrial Accident Prevention AI Interpretation App Support Program for Foreign Workers" to resolve language communication problems at industrial sites with a high proportion of foreign workers and to prevent industrial accidents.

The number of foreign workers in the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone has been steadily increasing recently. Language barriers in the process of giving work instructions and conducting safety training have long been pointed out as a risk factor for industrial accidents, and small and medium-sized enterprises in particular are struggling to secure full-time interpretation personnel.

The Authority plans to use an AI-based interpretation app to establish an always-on multilingual communication environment that can be used directly on site, and through this, to prevent industrial accidents in advance.

The project will run for one year from March 2026 to February 2027. Up to five companies will be selected from among the tenant companies in the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone that employ at least 20 foreign workers, and they will receive support.

Selected companies will be provided with an AI interpretation app service that offers real-time multilingual interpretation, translation of terminology specialized for industrial sites, and one-to-many simultaneous conversation functions. The support amount is equivalent to 4.4 million won per company. As the service can be used on personal mobile phones without any additional equipment, it is expected to have high on-site usability.

Commissioner Park Seongho said, "This will help reduce the risk of industrial accidents caused by language barriers," adding, "We will continue to provide support to create a foreign worker-friendly industrial environment and to strengthen the safety management capabilities of tenant companies."
