Yangju-si To Establish "Smart Bus Route Printout System" Incorporating Public Design

Yangju-si in Gyeonggi Province is moving to establish a "smart bus route printout system" that incorporates public design, in order to improve convenience for public transportation users and maximize the efficiency of administrative work.

Following the development of the first design for a new bus route map last year, the city will sequentially begin this year with (1) development of the second design for the new bus route map and (2) development of the smart bus route printout system.

Until now, Yangju-si has distributed bus route map design guidelines, but in the field, the size and format of the route maps have differed from stop to stop, undermining the cityscape and causing inconvenience for citizens trying to check information. In addition, whenever routes were newly established or changed, route maps had to be manually revised through computer graphic work, which has led to labor costs and delays in replacement timing, and has continuously raised issues of administrative inefficiency.

In response, the city plans to use this project to establish fundamental improvements through "design standardization" and "work automation."

First, through this "second design development," the city will complete a standard vertical bus route map design with dramatically enhanced visibility. Key improvements will include enlarging font size, highlighting the current location, and distinguishing the background colors of areas along the route, in order to improve readability.

In addition, the "smart bus route printout system" will incorporate the standard design and automatically link with data from the Gyeonggi Bus Information System, enabling the installation of unified and well-organized route maps throughout Yangju-si.

Yangju-si expects that this will not only dramatically improve the work efficiency of the responsible departments and maintenance/management companies, but also reduce annual maintenance and management costs by approximately 48 million won.

Urban Planning Division Chief Lee Sangdeok said, "The establishment of this system will serve as a model case for realizing data-based smart administration," adding, "We will continue to take the lead in resolving inconveniences in citizens' daily lives through public design."

Meanwhile, Yangju-si plans to begin sequentially replacing route maps at major bus stops starting in the second half of this year, when system development is completed.
