Lotte E&C Brings In Pritzker Prize-Winning Architect for Seongsu District 4 Design

Designers of Amorepacific Headquarters and New Krafton Office Building

Lotte E&C announced on the 6th that it has selected the global architectural firm David Chipperfield Architects, founded by Pritzker Prize-winning architect David Chipperfield, as its exterior design partner for the Seongsu District 4 redevelopment project.

David Chipperfield Architects designed the Neues Museum, the James-Simon-Galerie, and the Museo Jumex, among others. In Korea, the firm was responsible for the Amorepacific headquarters in Yongsan and the new Krafton office building in Seongsu. It previously collaborated with Lotte E&C last year on the main community design of "L’L Upper House" in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

Through this collaboration, Lotte E&C will apply David Chipperfield Architects' signature vertical design to Seongsu District 4. Taking inspiration from the Manhattan skyline in the United States, the company plans to introduce a differentiated facade and year-round landscape lighting. It will focus on realizing a sense of grand nature within the city by adopting a design that connects the flow of the Han River to the interior of the complex.

The project will also involve Gensler, a global specialist in supertall and mixed-use developments selected by the Seongsu District 4 Redevelopment Association. Lotte E&C’s strategy is to secure both functionality and aesthetics for Seongsu District 4 through collaboration with the two architectural firms.

A Lotte E&C representative said, "We will develop Seongsu District 4 into a space that goes beyond simple residential use to enhance the quality of life," adding, "Together with world-renowned architectural firms, we plan to propose the optimal design that embodies the unique, differentiated value of Seongsu District 4."
