Koochang Jung, Vice Minister of Gender Equality and Family, will visit a shelter for sexual violence survivors in Seoul on February 3.
This visit has been arranged to encourage the staff who support survivors of sexual violence at the shelter during the Lunar New Year holiday, and to listen to the voices from the field to further strengthen protection and support for survivors of sexual violence.
The facility to be visited on this day provides comprehensive services to help survivors recover, including accommodation and meals, counseling, medical and legal assistance, and vocational training for independence.
In particular, the facility operates a "Creating Daily Routines" program to help residents achieve psychological stability and restore their daily lives. Even after leaving the facility, survivors are supported through follow-up programs such as "Tto-Uri Life Counseling" and "Tto-Uri Meetings," which provide ongoing counseling and help maintain supportive relationships so that survivors can continue to lead safe and healthy lives.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is strengthening the protection system for survivors of sexual violence and further enhancing its support programs.
Through amendments to relevant laws, starting in July, the ministry plans to extend the length of stay at shelters for survivors of sexual violence who were minors at the time of admission. The ministry has also established a legal basis for providing self-reliance support funds and self-reliance allowances to survivors of sexual violence.
Beginning this year, the ministry is operating an additional counseling center for survivors with disabilities to improve service accessibility for survivors of sexual violence with disabilities.
Vice Minister Jung stated, "We will further strengthen protection and support so that survivors of sexual violence living in shelters can recover their daily lives as soon as possible."
