Scholarship Foundation Named After Son Fallen in Military Service Operated for 28 Years... S-Oil Highlights Employee Family Story

Introducing Employee Family's Charitable Giving
Over 200 Scholarship Recipients
S-Oil's Commitment to the Core Value of "Sharing"

On February 1, S-Oil announced through its official blog that it had introduced a case of charitable giving that has been continued for decades by the families of its employees.

The story released this time highlights the good deeds of Kang Sambyung, Chairman of the Kang Hansoo Scholarship Foundation, who is the father of Kang Minsu, Head of Audit at S-Oil. Since its establishment in 1998, the scholarship foundation has supported a total of 203 students as of last year, including more than 140 ROTC candidates at Hongik University, over a period of about 28 years. The foundation has consistently supported the academic pursuits of young people facing financial difficulties.

Chairman Kang Sambyung established the scholarship fund by combining contributions from himself and his family with the savings and condolence money of his late youngest son, in order to honor his son who died in the line of duty during military service. Since then, Chairman Kang has managed all aspects of the foundation, from selecting scholarship recipients to accounting and disbursement, drawing on the expertise he accumulated during more than 40 years in public service. In recognition of the integrity and public spirit with which he has operated the foundation, Chairman Kang received the Presidential Citation on Savings Day in 2001.

The late son of Chairman Kang is enshrined in the ROTC Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Hongik University. The mission of the scholarship foundation continues to this day, carried on by ROTC juniors and scholarship recipients.

S-Oil stated that this story is closely aligned with "sharing," one of the company's core values. S-Oil has continued its commitment to social contribution through the "Sunshine Sharing Volunteer Group," which is operated with the voluntary participation of employees and works together with the local community.

An S-Oil official stated, "This kind of practice is a model case that can inspire many people, as it is part of S-Oil's ongoing efforts to expand social value through sustainable (ESG) management," adding, "S-Oil will also continue to pursue sincere social contribution activities."
