Jeonnam Province announced that it has set up and is operating a memorial altar in front of the Namak Complex Community Center in Muan County to mourn and commemorate the passing of former Prime Minister Lee Haechan together with 1.8 million residents of the province.

The province explained that the altar was established so that all residents could join in honoring the late leader's will and dedication. Until 8 p.m. on the 31st, anyone from the province may freely visit the altar to offer flowers and incense.

On the morning of the 30th, Governor Kim Youngrok visited the memorial altar, where, together with department heads and heads of affiliated and funded organizations, he paid tribute by offering flowers and incense and observed a moment of silence to honor the deceased and wish for his eternal rest.

After paying his respects, Governor Kim wrote in the guestbook, "Prime Minister, who revived democracy and loved Jeonnam! We will carry on your will and achieve the grand integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju Special City," expressing his deep respect for the late leader and his strong commitment to the joint development of Gwangju and Jeonnam.

Governor Kim emphasized, "With the energy of inclusion, integration, and solidarity, we must open an era of peaceful coexistence and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula," and added, "The aspiration for peaceful unification, which you so strongly advocated, has now become our responsibility."

He also stated, "Jeonnam Province will take the footsteps of former Prime Minister Lee Haechan as a guidepost and move forward with all our strength toward a more robust democracy, balanced development, and peaceful unification. Together with 1.8 million residents, we mourn the passing of Prime Minister Lee and pray for his soul."

Governor Kim paid his respects at the May 18 Democracy Plaza on the 28th and at the Democratic Party's Jeonnam Provincial Office on the 29th. Following his visit to the Namak Complex Community Center in Muan on the 30th, he also visited the funeral hall at Seoul National University Hospital and plans to attend the memorial service at the National Assembly on the 31st, accompanying the late leader on his final journey in recognition of his dedication to the development of democracy in Korea.
