The Department of Nursing at Tongmyong University held a special lecture on pursuing nursing careers overseas, reflecting the career interests of its students.
On January 14, the Department of Nursing at Tongmyong University announced that it had invited alumna Hyeji Kang, a nurse currently working in New York, USA, to deliver an online special lecture. This event was organized in response to the growing interest among students who hope to become nurses in the United States.
Nurse Hyeji Kang graduated from the Department of Nursing at Tongmyong University in 2015 and is currently working as a nurse in New York. She obtained her FNP master's degree from Duke University in 2025 and is currently enrolled in the DNP program at Duke University.
The special lecture went beyond simply providing information about overseas employment, offering practical career guidance based on real-world experience. The session covered the overall roadmap for becoming a nurse in the United States, as well as detailed information about job responsibilities and working conditions. Topics of high interest to students, such as preparations needed during undergraduate studies, the NCLEX exam, and English study strategies, were also addressed.
Additionally, based on the experiences of a graduate, advice was given on the challenges that may be encountered when pursuing a nursing career in the United States and how to overcome them. Through real-life examples, students gained a more concrete understanding of the pathway to becoming a nurse in the United States.
One student who participated in the special lecture said, "It was helpful to learn in detail about the process of becoming a nurse in the United States, which I had previously only vaguely considered. I now have a clearer sense of what I need to prepare for during my undergraduate studies."
The Department of Nursing at Tongmyong University plans to continue supporting students' career planning and global competency development through field-oriented special lectures in collaboration with alumni.
