GS Engineering & Construction Enters Indian Renewable Energy Market... Begins Commercial Operation of Solar Power Plant 원본보기 아이콘

GS Engineering & Construction announced on the 27th that it has completed the construction of the 'Pathur Solar Power Plant' in Maharashtra, India, and has commenced full-scale commercial operations.

The Pathur Solar Power Plant is a solar facility equivalent in size to 12 to 13 football fields. It can generate between 18 million and 20 million kWh of electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 6,000 households for one year. Notably, when compared to fossil fuel energy and annual electricity production, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 8,000 tons per year.

GS Engineering & Construction participated in this project as a developer, overseeing construction and operating the solar power facility to directly sell electricity and generate revenue. This project adopts an 'open access captive' business model, which enables factories to procure the electricity they need directly by utilizing the transmission and distribution grid. As electricity rates in India continue to rise, demand for renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power is increasing, leading to expectations for growth in both demand for this business model and the broader market. To enter the Indian renewable energy market, GS Engineering & Construction established a renewable energy development subsidiary in India in 2023 and has been preparing for this business.

A GS Engineering & Construction representative stated, "Through this project, we have solidified our position as a developer in the Indian renewable energy market, and we plan to expand our business scope to include not only solar but also wind power in the future." The representative added, "We will first strengthen our competitiveness by collaborating with domestic companies already operating in India, and gradually diversify our customer base to lead the upcoming era of global carbon neutrality."
