GS Engineering & Construction announced on January 27 that it has been sued by Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) for damages of approximately 170 billion won in connection with the underground parking lot collapse at an apartment construction site in Incheon Geomdan New Town in 2023.
On this day, GS Engineering & Construction disclosed that LH, the client for the Geomdan New Town apartment construction project, filed a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court demanding 173.8 billion won in damages from the company.
The claimed amount corresponds to 3.42% of GS Engineering & Construction's consolidated equity as of its 2024 financial statements. The company stated, "We are closely reviewing the details of the lawsuit." It also announced that it plans to actively respond to future legal proceedings regarding countermeasures.
Previously, in April 2023, an underground parking lot collapsed at the AA13-2 block apartment construction site in Geomdan New Town. According to an investigation by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, it was revealed that design errors and omissions in construction led to the absence of shear reinforcement in some of the underground parking lot columns. At that time, GS Engineering & Construction took responsibility for the incident and decided to completely reconstruct the entire complex.
