According to the Changwon Facilities Corporation on January 26, at approximately 10:40 a.m. on January 25, an unidentified small organism was discovered in the swimming pool at the Citizens’ Sports Center. In accordance with the swimming pool water quality management manual, all users were immediately evacuated, and a preemptive decision was made to close the pool temporarily.

The corporation promptly posted a notice regarding the emergency closure, sent notification messages to customers, and published the announcement on its website.

The corporation established a countermeasure headquarters and, on the same afternoon, held an on-site meeting at the Citizens’ Sports Center, presided over by the head of the facilities division, with heads of safety-related departments in attendance to discuss future measures.

In addition, the corporation convened the Swimming Pool Water Quality Management Council to investigate the entry route and cause of the incident, as well as the management status of water quality facilities. The collected small organism was sent on January 26 to the National Institute of Biological Resources in Incheon for examination.

The Water Quality Management Council is composed of 10 members, including experts in water quality management, related organizations, civic groups, and relevant public officials.

The corporation plans to carry out comprehensive environmental and facility improvements, starting with draining the pool and water tanks, cleaning the pool and depth control plates, and conducting specialized disinfection.

Alongside a thorough investigation into the cause, the corporation will conduct special inspections of all swimming pools under its management to ensure even cleaner water quality.

The corporation aims to complete environmental and facility improvements by the end of February and minimize inconvenience to customers by reopening at that time.

Lee Kyungkyun, Acting President, stated, “We will transparently provide information regarding the occurrence of the small organism through the website and social media, and we will do our utmost to ensure the safety of the swimming pool’s water quality by establishing even more thorough preventive measures.”
