Jeda Korea Co., Ltd., a South Korean specialty vehicle manufacturer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Foresight, an Israeli advanced 3D perception technology company, to jointly develop next-generation AI-based specialty vehicles.

Through this agreement, Jeda Korea plans to integrate Foresight’s stereo vision and 3D perception-based artificial intelligence technology with its own expertise in road-specialized vehicle manufacturing, aiming to introduce next-generation specialty vehicles that enhance both safety and operational efficiency at roadwork sites. This marks a notable case of AI-powered video recognition technology being applied in the domestic specialty vehicle sector, drawing significant attention from the industry.

Foresight possesses 3D perception technology utilizing stereo cameras, enabling real-time navigation and obstacle detection. This technology is already being used in a variety of industrial settings, including autonomous vehicles, heavy equipment, and agricultural machinery. Jeda Korea intends to apply this technology to specialty vehicles, establishing an intelligent safety system that identifies and warns of potential hazards during road maintenance and management operations using video-based recognition.

Jeda Korea is a specialty vehicle manufacturer that has developed and mass-produced a total of 18 types of road-specialized vehicles, including bridge inspection vehicles, aerial work platforms, road barricade vehicles, traffic signal vehicles, and TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuators). With equipment manufacturing technology certified by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and patented equipment, the company has contributed to ensuring worker safety and improving the efficiency of infrastructure maintenance and management.

The next-generation specialty vehicles to be developed through this agreement will be equipped with AI-based real-time obstacle detection and navigation functions. The technology will enable automatic setting of detection zones simply by placing cones (traffic cones), and regions of interest (ROI) will be automatically generated in various road environments, including the rear, sides, and diagonal directions of work vehicles. The system will also respond to changes in the number of lanes, curved roads, and changes in work locations. If a general vehicle enters the detection area, it will be recognized as a hazardous situation, and warnings will be sent to both workers and the control system.

Through this collaboration, Jeda Korea plans to develop specialty vehicles equipped with advanced AI technology and provide road safety solutions that can be utilized in a wide range of infrastructure environments, including bridges, tunnels, and expressways.

A Jeda Korea representative stated, "Through our collaboration with Foresight, we aim to realize AI-powered specialty vehicles capable of preemptively detecting hazards at roadwork sites and preventing accidents," adding, "We will continue our research and development efforts to contribute to the creation of safer road environments."
