A tourist in their 20s was apprehended by the police in Jeju on suspicion of reckless driving late at night.
The Jeju Eastern Police Station announced on the 17th that they had recently booked a domestic tourist in their 20s, referred to as Mr. A, on charges of reckless driving under the Road Traffic Act and are currently investigating the case.
Mr. A is accused of repeatedly accelerating and braking a rental car at around 9:15 p.m. on November 26 on the road in front of Jeju Port's 5th Pier in Jeju City. He allegedly engaged in reckless driving by performing so-called "drifting," spinning the car in place multiple times.
The police analyzed the movement of nearby vehicles using closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to identify the license plate number, then conducted a search and seizure to apprehend Mr. A. During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated, "I drifted out of curiosity because there was no traffic."
The police plan to refer Mr. A to the prosecution without detention.
