Gangjin County Wins Two Awards at Urban Regeneration Hanmadang

Gangjin County in South Jeolla Province won awards in two categories at the "2025 Urban Regeneration Hanmadang Competition" organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. On December 12, the county announced that Byeongyeong-myeon was awarded the Grand Prize in the Regional Specialization category (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award), while Gangjin-eup was selected for the top prize in the Comprehensive Performance Evaluation category.

Byeongyeong-myeon received high marks for reinterpreting local historical and cultural assets centered around the Hamel Brewery, which was established through the urban regeneration project, and for building a specialized brand involving residents, youth, and local administration. The Hamel Brewery transformed an abandoned warehouse into a local hub, implementing an urban regeneration model that connects production, hands-on experiences, tourism, and festivals. Various programs have injected new vitality into daily life in the area.

Gangjin-eup received the top prize in the comprehensive performance evaluation of completed projects, as its improvements in living conditions, expansion of cultural and welfare infrastructure, revitalization of the local commercial district, and creation of a youth activity base were recognized. The urban regeneration project has led to the establishment of new cultural hubs and the operation of youth entrepreneurship and community programs, laying the groundwork for sustainable development.

Gang Jinwon, Mayor of Gangjin County, stated, "The direction of our urban regeneration policy and our field-oriented efforts have been recognized," adding, "We will pursue sustainable development together with the local community."
