The 'Yeongju City Rural New Vitality Community Center', established in Seokpo-ri, Isan-myeon, Yeongju City, North Gyeongsang Province, officially opened on December 11, 2025.
This facility, created by remodeling the former Isan Dongbu Elementary School, which had been left unused after its closure, is expected to serve as a key hub for the Rural New Vitality Plus Project, bringing together local capabilities with a focus on resident communication and collaboration.
The opening ceremony was attended by more than 200 people, including members of the action group leading the New Vitality Plus Project and local residents. The event began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a project achievement report, a tour of the facility, and a flea market organized by the action group, among other diverse programs, marking the official launch of the center.
The community center sits on a total site area of 9,300 square meters, with a building area of 834.4 square meters. It is designed as a multi-purpose cultural space where anyone can comfortably visit, featuring indoor spaces for education, meetings, and hands-on activities, as well as a campsite, outdoor stage, and lawn plaza. Yeongju City plans to use this space as the main venue for action group activities and a variety of resident programs, aiming to inject new vitality into the region.
The opening of this facility is regarded as a representative achievement of Yeongju City's ongoing Rural New Vitality Plus Project. This project, initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, connects various local resources such as facilities, manpower, and organizations to foster specialized industries, create jobs, and strengthen the foundation for sustainable rural growth. Since being selected as a project site in 2021, Yeongju City has been implementing the project with a total investment of 7.3 billion won, including 4.9 billion won in national funding, through 2025.
Yoo Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, stated, "The Yeongju City Rural New Vitality Community Center is a place where residents can directly design and implement the future of rural areas," adding, "We will spare no effort to support its growth as a central hub for community revitalization and rural innovation."
Yeongju City held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the Rural New Vitality Community Center.
