The city of Icheon in Gyeonggi Province will begin full-scale implementation of its "Integrated Biogas Facility" project next year, a plan that has been in the works for over two years.
On December 9, the Icheon city government announced that the National Assembly has finalized the allocation of 300 million won in next year's national budget for the design costs of the Integrated Biogas Facility installation project.
The Integrated Biogas Facility is an eco-friendly plant that produces biogas by collectively processing organic waste resources such as sewage sludge, food waste, and livestock manure.
With the confirmation of this project, the city has secured a total of over 61.7 billion won in national funding, including the design costs.
Accordingly, the city plans to begin designing a facility capable of producing 180 tons of biogas per day at the Janghowon Sewage Treatment Plant site. To minimize concerns about odors, the city intends to construct the facility entirely underground.
Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon, stated, "Securing this design budget is the result of persistent efforts and thorough preparation over a long period," adding, "We will build a resident-friendly facility that citizens can truly appreciate."
