The meeting was attended by Yoo Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, Hwang Kyuwon, Director of the Construction Division, and other city officials. From the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Park Changhwan, Director of Economic Budget Review, and relevant department representatives were present.
During the meeting, Yeongju City presented key regional issues, including the construction of the East-West Trans-Korea Railway in the central region and the relocation of the Yeongdong Line, the construction of the East-West Axis 5 (Mungyeong-Uljin) Expressway, and the establishment of an inland integrated logistics base in North Gyeongsang and Yeongdong regions. The city emphasized that expanding the national core transportation network would play a decisive role in improving regional accessibility and streamlining logistics flows.
Additionally, Yeongju City explained the necessity of establishing the 'Asia Rail-Tec Training Center,' citing its status as the only city in the country with a concentrated railway education infrastructure. The city stated that it has the potential to present a future city model integrating railways, logistics, and education, and added that securing a foundation for training professionals is essential for the development of the railway industry.
In particular, Yeongju City highlighted that if the region's railway, road, and logistics axes are connected into a single network, Yeongju could be reorganized as the central hub of inland transportation and logistics. The city explained that, based on its geographical advantages and existing infrastructure, it is the optimal city to lead wide-area connectivity, and stressed that such a strategy is essential for securing Yeongju's future growth engines.
Yoo Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, stated, "It is significant that we have designed the direction for Yeongju's development ourselves and discussed it with the central government," adding, "If transportation and logistics infrastructure are strengthened, not only Yeongju but also the surrounding regions can grow together."
He further emphasized, "Based on this consultation, we will continue to communicate closely with the government to ensure that these key projects gain the momentum needed for implementation."
