He also pledged, "We will actively support our partners in finding growth opportunities overseas by leveraging Shinhan’s global network."
This year marks the 11th anniversary of 'Shinhan Futures Lab Demo Day,' where alumni companies, group affiliates, and partner companies all participated to share annual collaboration achievements and global expansion cases. An awards ceremony was also held for alumni companies that achieved outstanding results through collaboration with Shinhan Financial Group affiliates.
This year, Shinhan Financial Group established a global division within 'Shinhan Futures Lab' and supported 14 startups seeking to expand into Japan and Vietnam. The group provided practical business opportunities by hosting a demo day in Vietnam and running a program linked to a fintech (finance + technology) expo in Japan. As a result, they also succeeded in attracting investments totaling 10 billion yen in Japan.
At this demo day, Shinhan Financial Group announced plans to strengthen support for the venture ecosystem and expand investments in startups from the perspective of productive finance. To this end, the group will promote the activation of strategic investor (SI) funds and establish a dedicated process for early-stage startups within Shinhan Venture Investment, gradually increasing the scale of investments.
Since its launch in 2015, 'Shinhan Futures Lab' has invested a total of 147 billion won in 516 startups, resulting in 345 collaboration cases and the creation of 29 baby unicorn companies. Shinhan Financial Group provides workspace and development programs for startups, as well as direct investments and investor networking support through its group affiliates.
