On December 2, CJ Logistics announced that it had signed a "Hydrogen Electric Tractor Demonstration Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)" with Ulsan Metropolitan City, Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Glovis, and Lotte Global Logistics. The signing ceremony, held at Taehwagang National Garden in Jung-gu, Ulsan, was attended by Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, Hyundai Motor Vice President Kim Dongwook, and Choi Gapju, Head of the Transport Group at CJ Logistics, among others.
Through this agreement, the participating organizations plan to establish a "package cooperation model" that encompasses the entire process from vehicle production and supply to transport operations and administrative and infrastructure support, thereby laying the groundwork for the commercialization of hydrogen electric tractors.
CJ Logistics will deploy hydrogen tractor trucks developed by Hyundai Motor Company on actual logistics routes. These trucks will be operated on long-distance routes between key logistics hubs within Ulsan, including Ulsan Port, and other regions. The company will systematically monitor key operational data such as daily driving distance, fuel efficiency, charging efficiency, and operational safety. Through this process, CJ Logistics aims to accumulate demonstration results for hydrogen tractors and, in the future, derive optimal operation models and standards.
The Ulsan city government will provide administrative support for overall vehicle operations and expand related infrastructure in connection with its hydrogen city development project. At the same time, the city plans to foster an eco-friendly logistics environment and establish the full-cycle ecosystem of "production-transportation-utilization" for hydrogen cargo trucks in Ulsan, thereby further strengthening its competitiveness as a hydrogen-based logistics and mobility hub.
Choi Gapju, Head of the Transport Group at CJ Logistics, stated, "We will successfully carry out the hydrogen tractor truck demonstration through close cooperation with Ulsan City, Hyundai Motor Company, and other participating organizations," adding, "With this project as a starting point, we aim to enhance the efficiency and stability of eco-friendly transport models and contribute to the expansion of hydrogen mobility."
