A massive personal information leak involving over 30 million cases has occurred at Coupang. This is the worst data breach in history, exceeding the economically active population of 29.69 million. On December 1, a Coupang signboard installed at the company's headquarters can be seen behind the text message apology sent by Coupang regarding the data leak. Since June, hackers had been accessing the customer database via overseas servers and stealing information, but it was only discovered in November. The initial report stated 4,536 cases, but the next day, it was confirmed to be an enormous scale, surpassing the 24.7 million active customers.
Coupang claims that card numbers and passwords were not leaked, but email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, and order histories were included in the breach.
