Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul (Mayor Choi Hokwon) announced that it is accepting ongoing applications from building owners to participate in the “Support Project for Opening Affiliated Parking Lots,” aiming to alleviate parking shortages and promote a culture of sharing.
The Support Project for Opening Affiliated Parking Lots provides various benefits to encourage apartment complexes, schools, businesses, religious facilities, and other institutions with surplus parking spaces to open their affiliated parking lots to nearby residents, either free of charge or for a fee.

This support applies when at least five parking spaces are opened for two years or more. For small buildings, support is available when three to four spaces are opened.
Participating building owners can also benefit from a reduction in the traffic impact fee. Depending on the usage rate of the parking lot by local residents relative to the number of spaces opened, the fee can be reduced by up to 5%.
This year, the district signed new agreements with seven affiliated parking lots, opening up 126 parking spaces. Currently, a total of 1,808 open parking spaces are in operation. The district assessed that parking convenience has improved, especially in residential areas suffering from severe parking shortages.
Building owners wishing to participate in the project can contact the Parking Culture Division at the district office for detailed information. Residents who wish to use the parking lots can check the status and other details on the “Information by Category” bulletin board on the district’s website.
This year, the district has also worked to secure more parking spaces by newly creating 48 resident-priority parking spaces utilizing idle land within the area.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, “We hope to resolve chronic parking problems and provide practical help to both participating building owners and residents. We will continue to do our best to create a safe and pleasant parking environment by promoting various parking lot expansion projects in the future.”
