Hong Joonpyo, former mayor of Daegu, expressed his regret toward former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the special prosecutor, saying, "It's already too late for regrets." He also criticized party members who encouraged Han.
On the 27th, Hong wrote on his social media, "Who were the people who pushed Han Ducksoo into the last presidential primary? Who were the ones who ruined the primary by including Han Ducksoo and handed over power to Lee Jaemyung?"
He also mentioned that he had advised Han to only serve as acting authority, warning that his bureaucratic career could end in misery. Hong said, "Why did someone as cautious and thoughtful as him chase such an absurd dream? Was it under the orders of Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee?" He continued, "Regardless of what happens to the country, it is clear that those involved were only thinking about their own survival. What must Han Ducksoo, who has now been sentenced to 15 years in prison, be thinking?"
Finally, Hong added, "Even if you realize too late that a person's downfall can happen in an instant, the train has already left the station," and asked, "Does Han Ducksoo even know what it means to be guilty of blindly following others?"
Meanwhile, on the 26th, Jo Eunseok, head of the special prosecutor's team for insurrection, requested a 15-year prison sentence for former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, who was indicted without detention for abetting former President Yoon Sukyeol's declaration of martial law. This is the first sentencing request among former cabinet members indicted in connection with the 12·3 Martial Law. The first trial verdict for Han Ducksoo is scheduled for January 21 next year.
