HJ Heavy Industries Wins 100 Billion Won Tagum Flood Control Project in the Philippines

HJ Heavy Industries announced on the 26th that it has won the contract for the "Tagum Flood Control Project," valued at 103.2 billion won, commissioned by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of the Philippines.

This project aims to prevent recurrent flood damage in the Tagum area of Davao del Norte, Mindanao, in the southern Philippines. It involves the construction of levees and bridges, dredging and expanding the river, and overall river improvement. The construction period is 48 months from the start date.

As natural disaster damage has increased in the Philippines due to recent climate change, the Philippine government has been promoting flood resilience and climate adaptation projects in cooperation with international organizations such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB). HJ Heavy Industries also completed a similar project, the Pampanga Flood Control Project, in April last year.

Since becoming the first Korean company to enter the Philippine construction market in 1973, HJ Heavy Industries has successfully carried out more than 80 projects, including roads, ports, dams, airports, and shipyards-the largest number among Korean companies in the country. The company has participated in major national projects such as the Manila Light Rail Transit and Davao International Airport. In November last year, it also secured a contract for the Cebu New Port construction project worth 280 billion won.

A representative from HJ Heavy Industries stated, "We will ensure the successful completion of the Tagum Flood Control Project to contribute to the safety of local residents and the development of the community, while further strengthening our competitiveness in the overseas infrastructure market."
