Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on November 25 that it will conduct a six-month pilot operation of the 'integrated taxi dispatch system' at the taxi stand of Terminal 1 (T1) of Incheon Airport.
The integrated taxi dispatch system is a method in which the taxi stand is unified regardless of region, and passengers use taxis in the order they arrive. Until now, the 'regional dispatch system' was in place, requiring passengers to use different taxi stands depending on their destination.
Incheon Airport is designated as a joint taxi business zone under the directive of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, allowing taxis from six regions-Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province (Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, Gimpo, and Goyang)-to operate together.
The regional dispatch system was inconvenient because passengers had to find and move to the appropriate taxi stand before boarding. There was also a risk that taxi drivers could be penalized for unauthorized boarding if they picked up passengers from other regions.
With the transition to the integrated dispatch system, it is expected that more than 10 groups of passengers can board simultaneously, alleviating congestion at the taxi stand. Under the previous system, a maximum of three to four groups could board at the same time by region.
Lee Hakjae, CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation, stated, "Through this pilot operation of the integrated dispatch system, we will be able to thoroughly review the efficiency and convenience of the system," adding, "We will continue to collaborate and communicate with relevant agencies to improve and minimize passenger inconvenience during airport transit."
