Modetour is positioning the cruise industry as a future strategic business and is officially entering the chartered cruise sector in earnest.
On November 24, Modetour announced that it will launch its first-ever exclusive chartered cruise business since its founding, aiming to make a strong entry into the cruise market.
The inaugural schedule for this chartered cruise business is the “Modu Cruise,” a 6-night, 7-day itinerary departing on June 19 next year. The route is designed as a “Busan departure-Busan arrival” voyage, combined with a “Hakodate-Otaru (1 night)” segment to maximize the time spent at each port of call. The operating vessel is the “Costa Serena,” a ship from Italy’s Costa Cruises, with a gross tonnage of 114,147 tons and a maximum capacity of 3,780 passengers. After completing a renewal this month, it will be redeployed on Asian routes. This refurbishment is expected to enhance all aspects of the ship, including cabins, restaurants, and entertainment.
The “Modu Cruise” is designed to allow guests to experience the natural beauty and urban charm of Hokkaido in depth. In Hakodate, the ship will dock during the most scenic nighttime hours, allowing for a relaxed schedule, while in Otaru, the “one-night overnight” stay will enable an immersive tourism experience beyond a simple visit. Onboard, a variety of differentiated programs will be offered, including special concerts by guest singers, humanities and culture lectures, and exclusive programs for families, seniors, and couples.
Reservation promotions have also been strengthened. Guests who book by December 31 will receive an early full payment discount of up to 500,000 won per person, as well as additional group discounts for parties of 10 or 20. Reservations and consultations are available through the official Modetour website and sales agencies nationwide, and the company plans to expand sales through various online partner channels in the future.
This initiative is significant not only as a new product launch, but also as the starting point for Modetour’s full-scale development of the cruise industry as a future strategic business. Modetour has long recognized the growth potential of the cruise sector, including the acquisition of the cruise-specialized company Cruise International, established in 2000, as a subsidiary in 2010.
Woo Junyeol, President of Modetour, emphasized, “This chartered cruise project marks the beginning of Modetour’s efforts to foster the cruise industry as a core business for the future. Having been directly involved from the planning stage, we aim to raise the standard of cruise travel with Modetour’s unique planning and services, and to contribute to the long-term expansion of the domestic cruise market.”
