'Farming' is not merely labor; it is an act of planting for the future.
Pohang City will begin purchasing bagged rice for the 2025 public grain reserves starting from Singwang-myeon on November 20th, continuing until December 18th across 11 towns and townships in the region.
This year, Pohang City plans to purchase a total of 4,162 tons of public grain reserves, including 1,832 tons of freshly harvested rice and 2,330 tons of bagged rice, representing an increase of 565 tons (15.7%) compared to last year.
The varieties to be purchased are Samgwang, Anpyeong, and Baromi 2 (powdered rice). To prevent mixing of varieties, a variety verification system will be implemented. If it is found that more than 20% of the rice is of a different variety, the respective farm will be excluded from public grain reserve purchases for the next five years.
The purchase price will be finalized in December, reflecting the farm-gate rice prices during the harvest season (October to December). To reduce the financial burden on farmers, an interim payment of 40,000 won per 40 kilograms will be made immediately after delivery.
Lee Hyunju, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "Although this year saw significant damage from rice stripe disease and pre-harvest sprouting, farmers continued to prepare for shipments despite the difficulties. We will do our utmost to prevent safety accidents and ensure a smooth working environment during the purchase period."
