The Daejeon Metropolitan Dance Company will hold its regular performance, "Chukchukchuk Chan(讚)·Me," commemorating its 40th anniversary, on November 21 and 22 at the Grand Theater of the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center.
"Chukchukchuk Chan(讚)·Me" means "to celebrate, to bless, and to praise." Marking the 40th anniversary of its founding, this special performance looks back on the company's journey and expresses gratitude to the citizens who have supported it over the years.
The performance features a woman in her forties as the protagonist, weaving together her life story and the stories of citizens into a single narrative. Through props symbolizing traditional celebrations, such as "Thread Ball" and "Soccer Ball," and festive scenes, the show expresses joy, challenge, and emotion through dance, delivering a warm resonance to the audience.
In particular, this performance offers deeper empathy by completing the script based on stories submitted directly by Daejeon citizens. Presented in an "audience participation" format with special seats on stage, the audience will share the same space with the dancers, going beyond simple viewing to become part of the performance itself for a unique experience.
To make this possible, the Daejeon Metropolitan Dance Company previously recruited citizen stories and special seat audience members through a public announcement, aiming to present a new form of performance created together with the community.
Artistic Director Kim Suhyeon stated, "This is an opportunity to rekindle the bond with citizens that has continued for 40 years on stage," adding, "It will be a true festival created together by the dance company and the citizens."
The performance is open to elementary school students and older (born in 2018 or earlier). Tickets can be reserved through the websites of the Daejeon Metropolitan Dance Company, Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center, and NOL Ticket, or via the NOL Ticket call center.
