To enhance its disaster response capabilities and review its cooperation system with related organizations in the event of an emergency, Korea National Oil Corporation carried out the drill jointly with 16 organizations, including Donghae City, Donghae Fire Station, and Donghae Police Station.

This year’s drill simulated a scenario in which, during an emergency shipment of reserve oil stored at the East Sea Oil Storage Base, an earthquake occurs, causing an oil leak and a subsequent fire at the loading and unloading facility.

Through the drill, Korea National Oil Corporation verified its step-by-step disaster response system in accordance with the corporation’s "Hazardous Materials Fire and Wildfire On-Site Response Action Manual," revised in March, and focused on checking whether the cooperation system with related organizations operates efficiently.

In particular, local organizations in Donghae, such as the Bukpyeong Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Youth Disaster Prevention Corps, were assigned drill tasks such as reporting disasters. In addition, the Bukpyeong Residents’ Autonomy Committee and the Bukpyeong Community Leaders’ Council participated in the evaluation process as members of the public experience group.

With such active participation from the local community, Korea National Oil Corporation reconfirmed its emergency response system, ensuring that it can collaborate organically with related organizations in the event of an actual disaster.

President Kim Dongseop stated, "Through this drill, we have not only strengthened the disaster response capabilities of the East Sea Oil Storage Base, but also reaffirmed our organic cooperation system with the local community. Korea National Oil Corporation will continue to conduct regular disaster response drills to ensure that the lives and safety of local residents remain our top priority."
