The Daejeon Tourism Organization has received positive feedback after installing the "Kumdori Yellow Footprints," a pedestrian safety marker that guides children to pause and look both ways before entering a crosswalk.

On November 10, the organization completed the installation in front of Jayang Elementary School in Dong-gu, within a designated child protection zone, as part of a regional problem-solving platform in collaboration with the Daejeon Metropolitan City Social Innovation Center.

By incorporating Daejeon's representative characters, "Kumdori" and "Kumsuni," into the design, the markers are crafted to attract children's interest and help them naturally recognize safety rules. This feature has led to greater visibility and a more enthusiastic response compared to conventional single-color markers.

The installation process began with the confirmation of design drafts and printing in October and was concentrated around the entrance area of Jayang Elementary School through early November. The organization conducted a preliminary survey to identify areas within the child protection zone with relatively high accident risk, selected installation sites accordingly, and coordinated with the school to place the markers at locations with high exposure along students' commuting routes.

Through this project, the organization expects to expand the foundation for cooperation between local public institutions and schools, improve traffic safety infrastructure in child protection zones, and promote a culture of safety in the community by introducing character-based safety designs.

Kim Yongwon, President of the Daejeon Tourism Organization, stated, "Although the installation of the Kumdori Yellow Footprints is a small measure to help children naturally develop safe walking habits, its impact is significant. We will continue to work with the local community to promote child protection and the spread of a safety culture."
