The Shinhan Scholarship Foundation announced on November 10 that it received the Prime Minister's Commendation at the 63rd Firefighters' Day Government Awards in recognition of its contributions to the scholarship program for the children of firefighters who died in the line of duty or were injured on the job.
Since signing a work agreement with the National Emergency Management Agency in 2012, the foundation has honored the dedication of firefighters by providing annual scholarships to ensure their children can continue their studies in a stable environment.
Starting next year, the foundation will launch a long-term growth program to foster global leaders, which includes an annual living and self-development stipend of 6 million won, as well as support for overseas exchange programs and master's and doctoral studies abroad.
A Shinhan Financial Group representative stated, "We express our deepest gratitude for the noble sacrifices made by firefighters for the nation and its people," adding, "As a corporate citizen, we will continue to fulfill our social responsibilities and provide ongoing scholarship support so that the children of firefighters who died or were injured in the line of duty can pursue their studies and realize their dreams."
Meanwhile, since 2006, the Shinhan Scholarship Foundation has provided a total of 41.5 billion won in scholarships to approximately 3,000 recipients, including students from underprivileged backgrounds in middle school, high school, university, and law school, as well as the children of police officers, firefighters, and coast guard officers who died or were injured in the line of duty.
